When you find a product that really works, you want to tell the world about it. Especially when the folks in your world are preparing for the potential end of the world. What is this magical product I’m raving about? It’s Silvex wound gel. I’ve been using it post-surgery on a gory-looking incision and the results have been so good that my doctor wanted to know what I’d been applying.
What is Silvex wound dressing?
It’s a wound dressing hydrogel that contains no alcohol and no peroxide. The active ingredient is a silver solution. In fact, there’s not a long list of ingredients:
24 PPM Proprietary Silver Solution (purified water, nano-silver at .01 micron), TEA, Carbomer
According to the package:
Non-toxic and safe for everyone in the family. Over the years, silver ions were isolated using electrodes, direct current, and water. These silver solutions are very effective but unstable and require high PPM (parts per million) and aggregate (bind) in the body. Not anymore; the revolutionary Nano Technology is wrapped in water molecules enabling fast and efficient transport through the body. It disrupts cell replication, and independent studies have shown it to be more powerful than other forms of silver products.
It’s said to prevent infections such as MRSA & VRE, STAPH (Staphylococcus aureus), Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and fungi such as Candida albicans & Aspergillusniger.
Don’t be put off by the small size. It’s not a huge container, but it goes a LONG way. I’ve been using the same container for a month, and there’s still quite a bit left in the tube.
How I used it
I had surgery on my ankle on April 18th. There was a long incision down the inside of my ankle and foot, plus screw holes on the heel, plus a couple of other smaller incisions on the top of my foot and the outside ankle.
When I first saw the wound a couple of days after surgery in the doctor’s office, I’ll be honest: I was horrified. It was big, bloody, gross, and seemed uneven due to massive swelling. I’m putting photos at the end of this article but be warned – the content is GRAPHIC. If you’re going to be grossed out or upset to see it, please stop scrolling before you get to it. (Don’t worry, I’ll let you know before the image appears.)
After two weeks, the stitches were removed, and I was allowed to get the wound wet in the shower. I was told it was fine to apply Polysporin or Vaseline to any place that wasn’t covered by steri-strips, which I was supposed to just let fall off naturally.
But the Polysporin was irritating because it was so thick, and I wasn’t about to put Vaseline on a still-open wound. So I pulled something out of my kit that I’d purchased for burns: Silvex wound gel. I began applying this wound dressing everywhere I could get to, about four times per day.
It was cooling and soothing, and it didn’t dry out my skin, so I figured that was a win. Also, because of the gel’s texture, a teeny tiny bit goes a long way.
But the real win was how fast it healed the wounds. The small ones have all but disappeared and the large one is neatly closed and fading quickly. Considering how it started out, I was absolutely gobsmacked that it had faded to this degree in only six weeks.
I’ve been so impressed that I put this product on my Amazon subscribe-and-save order, which is how I stock up on smaller, inexpensive items over time. I’ll get a tube once a month for the next 6 months and then cancel.
This product is a very worthwhile addition to your own medical kit, and I highly recommend it.

I had bone surgery on my right forearm about 4 yearsago. I used the contents of a vitamins E capsule daily on the long incision. By the 2 month mark you’d have had to hunt for the mark. No one sees it and if I didn’t know where the incision was I couldn’t find it either. Glad there are things that help us heal so well. I’ll check out the product you’re using. I’ve used the vitamins E oil on burns. It stops the pain and heals bad burns without scaring.

Have you considered making a salve from Colloidial Silver? I may make some and see if it helps. I am glad your ankle is doing better. I know what it feels like to hobble (and wobble) around on a bad ankle. I broke my ankle and tore the ligaments on the outside of my foot…have been in a boot since May 4th and will have to wear it until June 27th, when I return for a recheck. I have been using a comfrey salve on it. At this time of the year, trying to get the garden finished along with all the canning/dehydrating going on…the ankle problem was the last thing I needed to deal with. Great article! Thanks!

Scar tape – 100% silicone – no other ingredients was recommended by my plastic surgeon after melanoma surgery. Mine was 6″ on my cheek. 63 tiny stitches. Shocking – just like your ankle. Vaseline until stitches were out and the wound closed. Then scar tape 24/7, then just at night. 2 years later and the scar is mostly gone! Amazing! It seals in the moisture. I still use scar tape occasionally and notice a difference in the morning every time. Best part is cancer is all gone, but not having a giant scar on my face is nice too. Happy healing!

Your surgery scars do not bother me. Have seen surgical sites that are more aggressive than yours. The silver solution works extremely well. If you ever require a medication for an open wound that requires special attention look up Manuka honey.
Hope you are doing better and getting around after such an aggressive reconstruction surgery.

I use a similar product that comes in a jar instead of a tube. I have a colostomy bag and there is some skin that is around the outside of the stoma which gets exposed to the poo that comes out of the stoma. Sometimes, that poo is rather “hot” and burns the skin. The silver gel is the best thing we’ve found to heal the skin in my case.
Colloidal silvers are excellent, but there are a lot of fakes, or lower quality products sold even by some of the popular vitamin shops out there. Many only carry the low quality brands.

I have issues with diabetic leg ulcers. I went to a dermatologist who prescribed a Neosporin type salve and a strong Steroid cream I was to apply and wrap. HE WAS CLUELESS on wound care and my ulcers grew huge and deepened.
I VISTED my hospitals highly rated wound center and they said NESPORIN, band similar products deter healing ( except for minor surface wound) and advised me against using them. The steroid was not to be used over large areas and never wrapped as it destroys the skin. If a few drops is diluted with a moisture cream it can reduce redness and inflammation if used on a small area over night. So I was forbidden to use that.
The dermatologist had me using non-stick dressing pads, another NO- NO.
My ulcers were leaking a ton of Lymphatic ( clear) fluid to the point It was soaking through a few bath towels at a time.
After washing my wounds, removing damaged or dead skin tissue, the wound center applied MEDIHONEY ( brand name) to a DRAWTEX is absorbent pad. DRAWTEX comes in 4 ” rolls, and individual sheets up to 8″ x 8″. It can be trimmed to size. It keeps the wound moist, ideal for healing, and dead tissue clings to it. PAD was held to wound using roll gauze. THEN A self adhering 4″ rubbery roll wrap.
SHOP AROUND and be wary of length in your comparison shopping. RITE AID doubles the price for 1/2 the length…terrible.
Had dressing changed every 3-4 days . NOTHING but progress for 4-5 weeks.
Not sure how honey helps a diabetic based wound. Honey IS sugar & breeds bacteria. But if it helps you that’s great.
Have you tried pure unadulterated coconut oil & colloidal silver?
My understanding is that honey deters bacterial growth?
Bacteria cannot not grow on sugar. Honey lasts forever. The bees, smarter than you, know it reduces bacterial growth in their hives.
Honey DOESN’T breed bacteria. It’s antiseptic BY NATURE. That’s why honey NEVER goes bad. Honey found in ancient Egyptian tombs was found to be still perfectly edible. Honey has been used as an antibiotic on wounds for millennia because it WORKS!
Medihoney is Manuka honey with zink in it. I have used it for years& hubby did a lot of research on it. You’re correct on saying get the.1.with the highest number.

Wow, your scars faded really good. glad you’re healing up. I know it’s really frustrating to not be mobile, and pain is real. I’m at the pain Dr now myself,and left knee and leg getting worse. Injections not helping and migraines ,which I’ve never ever had, are getting severe. You and I are same age, Daisy. I’m praying quick healing for you.
I feel your pain with migraines. I’m 47 and had migraines since age 12. Was chronic even with monthly injections but have now reduced to a few bad ones monthly. Ironically, the reduction was AFTER I went off the migraine meds and started seeing a functional MD.

I’m 3 weeks today from having had a total knee replacement, and they used an interesting negative pressure dressing that contained an integrated pad infused with silver something… The dressing was removed after 2 weeks. My wound at 2 weeks looked as good as yours does after you started using the silver gel (mine was better at 2 weeks than your 4 week photo). Good luck with the rest of your recovery. My PT physical therapy is causing pain and sleep interruptions, but I am exceeding milestones. I can tell that the exercises are necessary. I hope your experience continues to go well, Daisy!

Although I already carry this – in my trauma kits, but also in my much larger “booboo bags,” I’m glad to see it being put out there for a much larger audience.
I was put onto silver-solutions many years ago by a Navy Corpsman buddy, but they’ve come a long way since then.
I used it on my wife’s mastectomy incisions multiple times daily, and, like you, her Dr was amazed at how little scarring developed.

What’s being described here is colloidal silver in a gel base. Silver as antibiotic properties. I keep some colloidal silver spray on hand myself. Just a note of warning when using silver-based antibiotic solutions though. If you use it in one area too long, it will turn the treated skin GREY, and the discoloration is PERMANENT.

Fell over a parking curb couple summers ago & cut my chin badly, had to use Butterfly sutures for first few days. Had Silvex and used it, healed in a week. First I’d experienced what a great product this is! Glad to see it promoted, hope your ankle is back to normal. Will pray for your current recuperation!
