I’m happy to announce that The Pantry Primer: A Prepper’s Guide to Whole Food on a Half-Price Budget is now available on Amazon!
Here’s How This Edition is Different from the Original Version
The first book was our personal story about building a pantry, based on the blog posts that I wrote throughout the journey. Readers had asked that I put all of the information together in one place, and the original version of The Pantry Primer was born.
But…there just wasn’t enough information in that book. I’ve spent the last year since it was published reading messages, reviews, and comments, and it was clear that a great deal of expansion was needed.
So, this book is almost triple the size of the original version, Instead of only personal accounts, it is a comprehensive guide containing detailed, step-by-step instructions for those of you who are creating a food storage supply.
This book is geared towards people who are just starting out on their preparedness journey. If you’ve been at it for a while, you’ll still find some creative ideas for shopping on a budget, but you may find that some of the concepts discussed are things that you already knew. I hope that you’ll still find the how-to information valuable, and maybe you can “pay it forward” by taking the time to advise someone less experienced.
In each section, we’ll discuss two things: Why and How.
While knowing how to do something is of vital importance, I always find that I personally learn much better if I also know why I’m doing it in that particular way. Some of the information is based on history, and some of it is based on my personal experiences.

About the book
The second edition of The Pantry Primer is nearly triple the size of the original book. It has morphed from a book about our own journey to replenish our pantry after a cross-continental move, to a detailed compendium of all things food storage.
Geared towards preppers, it teaches you:
- Why everyone needs a food supply in their homes
- How much food you need
- How your pantry is directly related to your health
- The components of a perfect pantry
- Prepping for those with dietary restrictions.
- A thrifty new way of shopping so you can afford to build your pantry
- How to store the food you purchase to extend the shelf life for as long as possible
- A week-by-week plan, complete with shopping lists and menu ideas
- How to save money by making items most people purchase ready-made at the store
- Pantry inventory and maintenance
- Where to store all of that food
- Bonus: 25 frugal and delicious recipes
A one-year food supply means freedom. It means that you are less subject to the whims of the economy or personal financial emergencies. You can handle small disasters with aplomb. You aren’t reliant on the government if a crisis strikes. You can’t be manipulated because your family is hungry.
Start preparing today for whatever life brings your way. Add The Pantry Primer to your preparedness library.

Hi Daisy, I’d like to ask you about your experience publishing with CreateSpace. I am about to publish a health book (not on prepping) and trying to decide if I should use any of their services, etc. Can you send me your contact (email account) to the account I provided so I can ask you a few questions. Thanks.
By the way. Great website. I’ve republished a few of your postings.
Hi Donna! I’ve just moved and have not located the cord to my computer with my work email on it. If you PM me on my Facebook page, that is the best way to reach me right now. I’d be happy to talk with you about Createspace – I’ve been very happy with them. 🙂
