Survival Saturday is a round-up of the week’s news and resources for folks who are interested in being prepared.
Merry Christmas from my home to yours
Dear friends: I hope that this holiday is spent with the ones you love. I hope you enjoy good food, gifts from the heart, and music.
I also hope that you’ll look around at the beloved faces at the dinner table and redouble your efforts to prepare for them. I believe are in for a troublesome year ahead with regard to the economy. President-Elect Trump is inheriting an economic disaster from President Obama, who kicked the can just far enough to get the collapse to occur beyond his administration.

This Week in the News
Welcome to the Christmas edition of Survival Saturday. While the holidays in the US are a time for loved ones, gifts, and peace, this isn’t the case everywhere. Here are some Christmas cautionary tales to which we should all pay attention.
What Is Christmas Like During an Economic Collapse?
Did you ever wonder what Christmas would be like after it hits the fan? You need look no further than Venezuela.
In Venezuela, money has lost its value so much that merchants weigh it instead of counting it. They ran short of food months ago, and the food that is available is astronomical in price – eggs, for example, are $150 a dozen. Last week, citizens were forced to turn in all large bills as their accounts were frozen, resulting in chaos and unrest as people were suddenly unable to buy gifts or food for the holiday…
…But President Nicholas Maduro thinks he can fix all that by providing toys.
People can’t eat, but their children will receive one of 3.8 million toys that the President had stolen so he could look good to the citizens.

FBI Issues Christmas Terror Warning
A list of churches that are potential targets for terror attacks was posted by ISIS supporters, resulting in an unsettling warning by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
“As part of the continuous dialogue with our law enforcement partners, the FBI routinely shares information about potential threats to better enable law enforcement to protect the communities they serve,” FBI spokesman Andrew Ames said, adding that citizens are advised to maintain awareness of their surroundings and report suspicious activity. “The FBI is aware of the recent link published online that urges attacks against U.S. churches. As with similar threats, the FBI is tracking this matter while we investigate its credibility,” he said. (source)
The warning was issued to local police departments.
The notice from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Department of Homeland Security was issued out of an abundance of caution after a publicly available list of U.S. churches was published on pro-ISIS websites. (source)
While we all sincerely hope for a peaceful Christmas, make sure that you and your family members know what to do in the event of a terror attack.
Criminal Santa Will Be Lucky to Elude Prosecution
You only thought Santa was a nice guy and law-abiding citizen. In reality, he operates in violation of at least five federal laws.
In the best article of the week, David Rosenthal listed off 5 actual laws that could result in time in the federal slammer for St. Nick. Seriously – these are real laws.
- The Reindeer Act
- The Lacey Act
- Flying Without a License
- False Statements
- IRS Tax Gift

Fear mongering … on Christmas Eve?
Well, if you call reporting news “fear-mongering”….
Survival Saturday is news for preppers. There’s generally some inherent element of disaster there.
Daisy, I don’t want to be argumentative but let’s be fair. Look at the financial mess Obama inherited from 8 years of George W. I don’t trust or support any current politico today but we cannot become short-sighted, blaming one man for everything & then become disenchanted when the new guy doesn’t fix it. I see nothing but complete collapse & a new rebuild to straighten out this mess but I don’t have the knowledge or skill to do it.
Definitely not argumentative! I love a good discussion with people who are well-informed. 🙂
I agree to some point. GWB had some dreadful economic policies as well. But Obama DOUBLED the national debt he inherited from Bush, and has managed to push all out collapse just a little further down the road. I think you’re right about the solution – I see no other way through this mess.
