In an uncommon (these days) act of objective journalism, James O’Keefe, the founder of Project Veritas and now the CEO of OMG Media, has gone to Western North Carolina to investigate. He went to see who was telling the truth about the situation there: the federal government or the people struggling to survive in tents in freezing temperatures.

This isn’t the first time FEMA has been accused of not aiding the survivors of a disaster. The accusations of cold disinterest to downright negligence were also present after Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, Superstorm Sandy in the North Eastern states, and the terrible wildfire that ravaged Lahaina on Maui, Hawaii.

In each case, the story was the same. Victims of the disasters criticized FEMA’s lackluster responses and were accused by the media of spreading “harmful misinformation.”

He wrote about his investigation on X.

“We don’t want to have an epidemic of people freezing to death,” a resident declared during the Buncombe County Commissioners meeting, voicing frustration over the slow pace of disaster relief in North Carolina. Another resident added, “I’ve never seen the lack of public officials coming out and actually trying to help,” reflecting the sentiment of abandonment felt by many in the community. Despite the mainstream media’s narrative of assistance, a resident revealed, “FEMA money runs out, and all the help I’ve seen has come from people out of state.” One FEMA employee even admitted, “Every delay means another night that a child sleeps in a car.”

@OKeefeMedia Group investigated these concerns, visiting FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers across the state to uncover the reality of Hurricane Helene relief efforts.

Here are the videos he has released so far. You can judge for yourself.

Who is helping the Helene victims?

The people who are actually helping are volunteers from across the country. They’re organizing the donations of campers and RVs, transporting them, and setting them up on peoples’ land, completely free of charge.

If you feel moved to help, the groups I recommend are:

What do you think?

How do you still feel hope when it seems like your own government cares more about the welfare of people in Ukraine, Lebanon, and Africa than it does suffering American citizens?

Do you believe O’Keefe’s reports, which are in line with the “conspiracy theories” put forth by locals? Or do you think the government is doing its best?

Let’s discuss it in the comments section.

  • Obviously, those FEMA mutts are doing NOTHING of actual help and don’t want to be exposed as THIEVES taking a salary for no production.
The FEMA staff would be more comfortable in their own homes. They should GO home, give those tents and trailers away to North Carolinians, and rip off the taxpayers in greater comfort.

  • I live in the Brushy Mountains of NC and we were less impacted by Helene but still had over 3 feet of water suddenly rushing down our driveway from what is normally asmall meandering creek. A group from our church has been making supply runs from donations we collected to harder hit areas and have spent time on the ground helping remove trees and debris, clearing roadways and around houses. Many faith based groups are on the ground daily doing what they can and government as usual just gets in the way and slows down the progress these organizations could do. Samaritan’s Purse has been doing yeoman’s work. Pray for wetsern NC, eastern TN and northern GA.

  • As a survivor of Hurricane Michael, a CAT 5 storm in the Florida Panhandle, I can attest that the feds and FEMA were the LAST to show up and did nothing for us. They told us to pull our car over to a local elementary school and they would load a box of MREs and bottled water into the car. This was WEEKS after the storm. If we relied on them, we would have died of thirst. The responders who made a difference were the faith based organizations. There were NO foreign charities to be found and the feds were beyond useless. And for this, we pay taxes. This Government is beyond corrupt. They are evil.
