Recently, I spoke with Rory from The Daily Coin about the potential for economic collapse and why we need to pay attention to what’s going on in Venezuela. We discussed how to prepare for it, why everyone needs to work on becoming more self-reliant, and some actionable steps that you can take.
The situation in the US right now is very comparable to the early stages of the Venezuelan collapse. It’s essential to watch Venezuela and treat it as a cautionary tale, because the same signs are right in front of us. How would you handle rationed food, rationed electricity, and mandatory cuts of work hours? What would you do if food was no longer available at the grocery store?
Even city dwellers in Venezuela have been told they need to grow their own food if they want to eat. If food is rationed, you can bet that the supplies will be meager. You’re going to want to supplement that if your family is to remain healthy.

When I read about Venezuela I think of how things are falling apart in Puerto Rico (their inability to pay their debts) then I think: Illinois is the next Puerto Rico, monetary wise. On top of that, a headline on the front page of a local paper today said a number of water sources in Illinois were found to have high levels of lead. Meanwhile; a county sheriff was complaining that taxes needed to be raised to stop layoffs or your call might not be responded to, didn’t that happen in Oakland Ca awhile back? It’s all a bit like ‘The Blob’ is slowly spreading across the world, and growing. Or, more like, there’s a can O’ Blob sitting in every state, city, and township creeping out of it’s can getting ready to devour…
Anyway, it’s nice to be able to put a voice to your words.
Thanks, Helot!
You’re right. There seems to be quite a blackout regarding Puerto Rico. Maybe they don’t want us looking too closely since it’s a US territory?
Thanks Daisy for reason in a strange time.Being retired,on a budget & disabled,I have been worried.Your info for prepping where you are is great.I garden in raised beds, have 4 hens,a beehive & am storing h2o & food as quickly as possible. The outhouse will be a new addition to the back yard. The shutters & signs for the front of the house is brilliant! Thanks for a glimmer of hope.
Susan’s mention of getting a new outhouse reminded me of a story long ago about rural Missouri water quality inspectors. They would pour some kerosene down the hole(s) in such an outhouse. Then they’d wait a day or so to learn whether the homeowner would complain of a kerosene taste in their well water. Ouch!
If there was such a taste it was a quick and cheap warning that the outhouse was built too close to the water table that family well depended on.
