I love the relief I get from using Organica Naturals CBD oil. I sleep better (I’m a chronic insomniac) and find that a dropper full works for me just as well as taking ibuprofen.  But you know what I don’t love?

The taste.

I’m sorry, I know I should say it’s all wonderful, but for the love of sweet baby goats, it’s all I can do to choke it down. I was never a pot smoker when I was younger so I have no fond, nostalgic memories that make it pleasant. I haven’t seen a whole lot of people talk about the taste of CBD oil, but I can’t be the only one, can I?

Since I’m not one to let a bad taste keep me away from a great supplement, I’ve been doing some experimenting and wanted to pass on what I’ve learned to you.

Please remember that the way to get the fastest and best results from CBD is to hold the oil under your tongue for one minute.

#1 – The kind of CBD oil matters.

That “skunky” taste (sorry but that’s the best description I could think of) comes from THC. As we’ve posted before, the THC in CBD oil doesn’t get you high, so don’t worry about that.

You can get two different kinds of CBD. The very strongest that I know of is this 5000 mg hyper-concentrated stuff.  You’re definitely going to taste the THC in it but it’s the most powerful stuff you can buy.

If you want something without much taste, what you want is a CBD isolate. This is THC-free and has very little flavor. And you can even get it in the same hyper-concentrated dosage as the stuff I mentioned above. (Go hard or go home, right?) If you have a job in which you are subject to drug tests, you should choose a CBD isolate, as it is free of THC.

#2 – Have something else under your tongue

Since taking CBD sublingually is the best and fastest way to get it into your system, you can override the taste with something highly flavorful there at the same time. Dark chocolate, a mint, or a piece of fruity candy will melt under your tongue and help disguise the CBD taste.

#3 – CBD Jello Shots

Making Jello shots is easy. You mix up your Jello and pour it into a shot glass that you pop in the fridge until firm. Making CBD Jello shots is nearly as easy.  Mix up your Jello, pour it into a shot glass leaving a little room. Add a dropper full of the CBD oil of your choice, give the mixture a little stir, and pop it in the fridge. It may not get quite as firm as regular Jello, but it’s a tasty way to down your CBD.

I found that cherry-flavored Jello covered the taste of the super-strong CBD the best. You can still taste it – it’s not magic – but it’s much more tolerable.

If you have children, obviously keep your CBD Jello shots out of their reach.

#4 – CBD Baked Goods

When you’re planning to cook with CBD oil, here are some things to remember:

  • Mix it in with the fat in the recipe – if it calls for melted butter or cooking oil, whisk your CBD into that then continue with the recipe as directed.
  • Use a muffin time – pour your batter into the muffin tin and stir a dropper full of CBD oil into each cup. This is the most accurate way to get a certain amount of CBD in each serving.
  • Don’t cook it too hot – after 325-350 degrees Fahrenheit, CBD begins to lose potency.  Choose your recipes accordingly or adjust by lowering the heat and cooking it longer.

#5 – It’s the bomb-diggity in no-bake fat bombs

I like to put CBD in those “fat bomb” recipes that you can find on any keto website. To make it more tasteless, incorporate it with the fat before you combine the other ingredients. To make sure you’re getting a full dose, I recommend breaking out the handy muffin tin again or even an ice cube tray, and incorporating a dropper full into your delicious fat bomb.

Here’s the recipe I use:

  • 1/2 cup of peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup of cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup of melted coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp of honey
  • A teeny sprinkle of salt

Stir everything together until it’s well incorporated. If it is too dry, melt a little bit more coconut oil and stir it in. Dip your mixture into ice cube trays or muffin tins. Then add a dropper full of CBD to each one and stir it up well. Pop it into the freezer (which is where you’ll store these goodies.)

#6 Mix it in a shot glass of coffee

Coffee is strong enough to help mask the taste. If you take CBD in the morning, after you doctor up your coffee, pour a little into a small glass and mix in your CBD to drink it down. Remember that CBD takes longer to work if it has to go through your digestive system.

#7 Make homemade CBD gummies

For a fraction of the price of purchasing CBD gummies, you can easily make your own.

You need:

  • 1 package of your favorite gelatin (3 oz.)
  • 1-1/2 cups of juice
  • CBD oil
  • A silicone gummy mold like this one, which is BPA-free and includes droppers

Bring your juice to a simmer and then remove it from the heat. Whisk in your gelatin packet.

Fill your molds halfway with your mixture, then add half a dropper full of CBD. Pop it in the fridge for 15 minutes.

Pull your gummies out of the fridge and add the other half dropper of CBD. Then, top the gummies off with the rest of your Jello-juice mixture. Put it back in the fridge. After 5 minutes, sprinkle some coarse sugar on top and put it back in the fridge.

You’ll see some minor separation but these are pretty darned tasty. I like to use a thicker juice like mango or orange, and cherry or orange Jello. The strength of your gummies depends on the concentration of your CBD oil.

#8 Make CBD capsules

Making capsules is a super-easy way to get your CBD without tasting it at all. Of course, when it goes through your digestive system, it does take a bit longer to work.

Select the size of capsule you can easily take. 000 are the big ones that hold about 1000 mg and 0 are smaller and hold about 500 mg.

The easiest way to make capsules is with an old-school gadget like this. Be sure to pick the size that corresponds with your capsules.

Then, simply put the bottom of the capsules into your gadget, use your dropper to put CBD oil in, and pop the tops on your capsules. Easy peasy, right?

  • Normally I love everything you write about, but this time I have a disagreement. If someone is using CBD for pain, sugars will defeat the purpose. All sugars and inflammatory in the human system. Even honey can be bad for some people with fibromyalgia. Plus, if you recommend Peanut butter, you should only use natural, nothing added, plain peanut butter. Not even Xylitol is safe, not to mention that it will kill your dog’s. If you need sugar to hide the taste I would say, suck it up, buttercup and take your medicine! ???? Said with love, of course!

Plus, any tomato or pepper can hide the taste, unless fibromyalgia sufferer, in which case, night shade plants can make you worse as well.

    • You’re right, for sure. However, if you’re taking it for sleep, it shouldn’t matter as much.

    • I promote CBD because it’s a natural supplement that helps me sleep. Scientists have found numerous benefits as well – there’s a link at the end of the article to the research.

  • You aren’t crazy. It is awful, but I just brace myself and squirt. Your supplier looks great, but I use a supplier in OR that gives me 60% off because I am disabled and low income. I actually cried when they approved me. I use their (very skunky) full spectrum and my cost per month is now only $22 (and I use quite a bit)

  • Thankyou for the tips as my 81 year old mother and I both do not like the taste either…. but it works!!

  • I put a dropper of CBD between my lip and front teeth like “chew” then tip my head back for about 30 seconds then swallow then drink something to chase it. Water works just as well as coffee or juice. And YES, it tastes awful without the chaser.

  • can not believe how many people sell cbd oil but how do you know if they are being honest ,I hav e not notice a difference. Still have loads of pain thank you vicky

    • Vicky…you do have to do your homework and find one that works. With that said…it can be expensive. I just happened to be gifted some CBD oil and I could not tell it worked. I have osteoarthritis in 100% of my body and I take several RX meds but what if there comes a day I can not get said meds? I need a backup so I tried a different brand. Still no luck until I was reading several articles one day by other Osteoarthritis sufferers and a few brands were recommended. I ordered one jar of gummies and VIOLA! it worked!!! Hallelujah! But it can be a bit expensive. Then I was gifted another bottle a $188. bottle and IT WORKED! I can’t afford $188/month so I’ve been researching and experimenting with infusing my own oil and it’s working with less expense. Sleep is typically my arch nemesis and I am finally sleeping well and I can’t begin to say how thankful I am.
