It’s time for another episode of Doomsday Bunkers of the Rich and Famous. You can find the last article about a doomsday neighborhood in Germany right here.
This time, we’ll travel a bit closer to home – right in the middle of…Kansas. In the small town of Glasco, Kansas, population 473, lies the ultimate in luxury bunker destinations: Survival Condos.
So, if you’re curious about how the other half intends to ride out the apocalypse, let me tell you: they’ll be living it in high style. But there’s always something to learn when you look at the preparedness plans of others. Let’s explore the Survival Condos of Kansas.
What are the survival condos like?
Survival Condos are fortified and equipped to withstand all your basic apocalypses, such as nuclear bombs, earthquakes, tornadoes, enemy invasions, and pandemics. The condo community lies 200 feet underground in an old Atlas missile silo, which was clearly hardened to withstand all types of catastrophes.
Each condo has every possible amenity, including high ceilings, windows looking out at imaginary views, and high ceilings.

How about a tour?
Watch the video below to see what a $3 million bunker is like.
While most of these luxuries are out of reach for the middle-class prepper, there are always ideas to be gleaned from the most outrageous survival designs. What could you duplicate for your own survival retreat?
I’m with you, Daisy… love the pool. Honestly, I didn’t find the rest all that impressive… just expensive.
Don’t think we’d want to live long term in a bunker, we are too outdoorsy. Maybe several days would be enough. Everything outside would be destroyed anyway. Probably better off not surviving a catastrophic event.
A couple hundred, maybe a thousand people, all stuffed in a tightly enclosed area.
What can go wrong?
People apply to buy a condo there, and rules are strict. A time out area (jail cell) is part of the common area too. Population is under 200.
Things that could go wrong: several people dying in the bunker and cannot be buried outside. Maybe a rape or two?
What happens when the professional security realizes that cash money isn’t worth anything post BAU and the clients are worthless mouth breathers eating all the resources you gathered?
How many of the security are wearing eat the rich tattoos?
Living long term in this silo is not appealing at all. Is there medical help in there if one of those old billionaires gets sick? What happens in an earthquake? Do they have a homeowner’s association? What happens if you don’t like your neighbors? Not impressed.
Yes there are doctors on staff, and living there as owners. There is a well equipped sick bay. Yes there is a HOA. Not all are “old billionaires”, as families are welcome, as are pets within reason. Earthquakes are a non issue in Kansas, and these silos have been underground since the 60s and 70s. These condos are nice enough to be vacation getaways pre-SHTF.
Thanks for the information, Cindi! It sounds like you know quite a bit about these and like they’ve thought of everything. Are there more details you could share?
Thank you for your response Cindi. Very interesting.
What will happen when all of the supplies run out?
.
They will have to come out and face the surviving “deplorables”.
.
‘Assuming’ they don’t kill each other off first.
Great, if rich people want to buy these things, so much the better. Why? Because it means tradesmen and laborers are making a fair amount of money from it. So are makers of luxury items, appliance salesmen, upholsterers, interior decorators, and many more. Just the same as we never really “throw away money in space,” money isn’t really being thrown away here either. It’s making jobs without a wasteful, immoral government program. In the meantime, if we don’t like the rich that are sheltering here, that’s fine – money doesn’t buy you a survival mindset.
Good for you, Redbranch, for framing this with a more positive outlook. Variety helps any species survive. Everyone’s idea of “safety” and a lifestyle worth living need not be the same. Viva la difference.
There are 3 major problems with this waste of money project.
The first is that a missile silo is not a good place to build a bunker because unless the Russians have personally inspected the facility to confirm it does not contain a missile and in fact there are no other silos with missiles in them near by it has a warhead already targeted at it. Even if the bunker is not destroyed right away the ground above it will be turned to glass and the windmill and the air vents are not going to work. Neither are the doors. They would be trapped inside. They couldn’t run the generators in this situation because there would be no way to bring in air or vent exhaust. Dead in the dark in days to weeks.
The second reason it’s a dumb idea is that you have to get in the bunker before the Apocalypse. So you have about 30 minutes. Hopefully you live nearby or live there full time.
And the third reason of course is because unless you have provisions for the rest of your life you will starve to death in the bunker, because 5 years isn’t going to be long enough. After an all out nuclear war, you and your descendants probably have to stay down there for 200,000 years just to deal with the plutonium but even if that were possible they would emerge to a world that had no life on it of any kind.
Bunker thinking is 1960’s thinking, when the bombs were smaller, less numerous, and there wasn’t a huge amount of nuclear waste sitting around in “storage pools”. You could probably survive a 1960’s nuclear war in a bunker. That is no longer the case. Even if you don’t count the radiation, very little if any life on the planet will survive the nuclear winter. It will be at least as bad as the meteor that killed all of the dinosaurs. Maybe some life squeaks through, but it won’t be humans. But the meteor wasn’t radioactive, so I think this will be worse.
Nonplused: you bring up excellent points and smart people will not be suckered into buying one of these condos. It will be a deathtrap for sure. No future in leaving one of these bunkers later on, only useless, total wasteland.
Let’s just be honest, use a tad of common sense here and be outright factual!!! Just because a person has the money to purchase one of these elaborate elite condos doesn’t mean that person has one ounce of COMMON SENSE!!!!!
You can take two people for instance. ONE has ALOT of common sense and know how and NOT a lot of formal education or millions of dollars…Then you can take the other person who has ALOT of money, millions of dollars and little know how (he’s not a jack of all trades) but a master of one, he knew how to make money and thus enabled himself to have the capability to purchase one of these luxury condos…
However this man unfortunately lacks any COMMON SENSE!!!!! Think about this scenario for a second…WHICH MAN IS BETTER OFF? The man without the COMMON SENSE or the man with an abundance of COMMON SENSE????? The honest truth happens to be the man that has years of education may not possess an ounce of COMMON SENSE, while the man who has little formal education atl has a world of great COMMON SENSE…and know how! He’s able to figure things out in his head and make logical decisions and apply them to further his goals…
What happens when the elevators don’t work and certain people aren’t physically able to climb those stairs?
When it’s all over and they come out (eventually) they either come out or they just die down in their bunkers…What will they find on land above the bunkers? Wasteland…and most likely they will NOT be able to breath at all above ground.
What in effect they’ve done is taken measures to prolong their lives for a short amount of time down below. Eventually their food and water will run out. There will be NOTHING left in their “general store” and then what? Have they figured out how they’re going to bring down “more food-more water”?
Do they then continue to desire to survive by cannibalism? Would anybody resort to that measure? Absolutely they will b/c they will be “drying” of starvation and they’ll want to survive at all cost. Well sooner or later even that won’t work .
This is to me is just the lack of common sense of the rich and famous who have enough money to think it will buy them life forever (and it won’t)…IF any of those people have a heart attack or a severe stroke or have any major health issues down below that the “clinic” isn’t equipped to handle, they will die. Are there actual surgeons that will be there to assist them. Is there an operating room/ICU or anything similar down below to help them in case of a dire emergency ie Equipment, nurses, oxygen (all that would be required) ? …Very doubtful there is going to be a fully equipped hospital down below…
You see these are most likely things that these people with all this money haven’t even thought about…They are just looking for an escape route. How will they even get to this place and do what they need to do to be (what they think will be safe) and read in time????? Ahhhhh, I honestly just don’t think they’ve thought this through with any common sense whatsoever !!!
When the world gets that bad I don’t wanna be in one of their bunkers, I want to be dead, b/c life on planet earth after this will never be the same again. It will take years to rebuild the infrastructure and get things up and running and there will be NO equipment to do anything with, it would have ALL been destroyed. No water, no food ready to eat, no gardens, no law enforcement, just chaos everywhere with the few humans that may have survived…
NO THANK YOU!!!
This is in my humble opinion is such a crazy idea that it’s not something I would even consider IF I had the $$$$$$ to do so!!! The human that is blessed with ALOT OF MONEY and ALOT OF COMMON SENSE would NEVER even dream of doing anything like that.
The problem with this is that, when this is actually needed, it will be hard for people living elsewhere to get to this remote location. Money won’t solve everything and the barriers that could be encountered to travel to any bug out location make far away escapes impractical.
I would do this if I won the lotto. I can get along with pretty much anyone, and wouldn’t mind working in their general store or working in the library.
Here’s a funny thought. Many “rich” people have plenty of immigrants doing landscaping and housekeeping… so I can imagine that when something really big goes “BANG”, … all those immigrants who are working at the condos, will just run inside and lock the doors before the owners show up.
Hahaha. I can just see some rich-fat-cat screaming at the door “Let me in!!!”, and the housekeeper & landscaper saying “No habla englais.”
I wonder what all those security guards will do when TSHTF. Stay outside to fight off marauders? Or die of radiation? Or insist to the owners that they want to live in luxury too? They’ve got the weapons–I expect they’d just take over and rule the whole bunker!
Just for curiosity, once the diesel runs out, and the wind turbines are destroyed, what happens then?? No life above ground – nothing?
That was an excellent comment that you brought up, and I honestly don’t think (as I pointed out in my long message) that these people have enough common sense to realize these things. They are thinking, GET AWAY AND GET INTO OUR CONDO AND FORGET ABOUT EVERYTHING AND EVERYBODY ELSE. They just don’t think sensibly. Dollar signs apparently run their brain function. Remember the LOVE of money is the root of ALL evil…AHHHH, they wake up thinking about it, go to bed thinking about it and even dreaming of it…
Another thought that I just had is this…
What if ANY of them are on prescription medication? High blood pressure, or any of the others, after what they take down there with them runs out then what? I suppose they have a nice fully stocked pharmacy down below to refill their prescriptions…hummmmm, very unlikely! Without medication they’re more than likely pass on. Where after they are dead will they be buried or how will they dispose of the dead body/bodies…What if one of these younger ones happens to be pregnant at that time, then what? Where do diapers and formula come from? I mean what will happen to the baby? OMG, this whole scenario is SO darn scary, it sends chills up my spine just visualizing all of this… Insane to say the least!
Wow. Does anyone else feels slightly dizzy and experience symptoms of claustrophobia just thinking about being 200 feet underground? What happens if the stairwells/elevator shafts fill in? What if you get stuck down there?
Anyone here read J. G. Ballard’s “High Rise” or seen the excellent movie?
For those who haven’t, architect designs and builds basically the perfect apartment high rise, with almost every one of the same amenities as this silo. It slowly devolves into an absolute dystopian hellhole.
