If It’s True That Art Reflects Life We’re in a Very Dark Place

As a writer who doesn’t hold punches, these so-called “pieces” are extremely worrying for me and other writers and artists who use shock value to get legitimate points across.
Why? Because these sickos devalue true art and writing. The likes of William S. Burroughs who used shock value to satirize everything wrong with America is being devalued by wannabe punks and edgy millennials who probably can’t even spell William S. Burroughs without Googling it.

P.S. I ‘m 18 and have been subbed ever since the election, your stuff provides quite the insight without being biased. Keep it up!

This is the kind of art you would expect from a profoundly disturbed society. So what else is new?

“To be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society is no measure of health”.

How well are you adjusted to our society? Do you fit right in? Do you watch TV every single day? Do you willfully consume the toxic food, water, and pharmaceuticals? Are you and your children fully vaccinated? Do you support and endorse our government education system? Do you support and endorse bloodshed, murder, and war? Do you support and endorse our false monetary policy? Are you up to your eyeballs in debt? Do you “believe” in anthropogenic global warming? Do you fully support and endorse our science, which is censored, biased, partial, and full of innuendo?

These are some of the traits of the “collective”, which we are all a part of whether we like it or not. To quote Jeff, “everything we were taught OUR whole lives has been a LIE…………….”

I think this shows how the elites try to “fix” the market, so only what a few people deem as “good” makes millions, while what is actually good artwork often never makes into the news.

The US of A has become a sick, depraved society. It all started in the late 60’s and went down hill from there, it has picked up speed in the 90’s. It will not stop, the US of A has become the Roman empire and we are headed that way. If there is a god, god helps us, sorry we are on our own

Second, in addition to contributing to the destruction of Western Civilization, visual art works might serve another very useful purpose. For example:

A owes B $2,000,000 and needs to pay without leaving a paper trail.

B contacts C, who is an “artist”, and commissions a painting, for which B offers to pay C $1000. C finishes the painting and frames it in 15 minutes.

B then contacts D to act as an accomplice at an art auction. For his services, D is to receive $5,000.

B puts his new painting up for auction. There is great public interest in this painting, and the price is quickly bid up, but by $1,000,000, A and D are the only two remaining bidders. They continue to bid against each other until finally, at $2,011,000, A is the high bidder. A pays the auction house and walks off with his new painting. The auction house subtracts its fee of $5,000 and cuts a check to B for $2,006,000. B pays $1000 to C and $5000 to D, and is left with $2,000,000.

The breast milk jewelry thing seems wholesome enough – women who appreciate the bond they’ve developed with their children by using their bodies as designed to feed them, who are in awe of the scientific marvel of the nutrition they are able to provide, want a little memento of this time of their lives. (I know some people who make these, and they seem generally sane.)

I found it interesting, especially during the last election, about the cannibalism art. The interesting part to me was the symbolism. During the last election about half the country was out of work, unemployed, they had no jobs. These folk were struggling, and still do struggle, to feed their kids. Here you have the elites shaping women and children out of cake and eating them. From simply a symbolic perspective, not even touching any proposed ritualistic perspective, you have the elites blatantly saying “we are eating your young.”

In 2002 a movie came out called Max. It’s a take on young Hitler as an artist and his spiral towards insanity. There is a scene in it that really stuck with me, of an art piece where the artist sculpted themselves out of meat and then ran that “sculpture” through a sausage grinder. Ooo, ah, shocking. Lots of acclaim. Here’s the thing though, this scene is taking place during the height of the Weimar Republic. During this time Germans are divided between the haves and have-nots. The have-nots are so desperate they are prostituting not just themselves but their own children trying to put food on the table. Now here is an art piece wasting pound after pound of meat, while the elites clap. Of course we can’t possibly cover this era in history classes, then we might learn something from it.

I do draw strength from the fact that periods of such incredible stupidity/debauchery/excess/revulsion have occurred before in the history of humanity and we still exist today. It gives me hope that humans will still keep living in the future. Look at the myths. The Minotaur of Crete was fed seven boys and seven girls, every year, that it ate alive. Horrible. Say the Minotaur did not exist, that story still existed for a reason. People kept telling it for a reason, with places and names that were real. Something horrific occurred year after year in Crete and did not end until Theseus “killed the Minotaur.”

Look at the excess of the Roaring Twenties that was followed by the very restrictive 30s, and led into the 40s and 50s. People forget that Prohibition was in response partly due to the huge uptick in opium dens from the Chinese railroad workers. That the strict Victorian era was in response to a massive spread of STDs from the far looser era before that. These things tend to be cyclical, and while we are definitely in a more extreme swing than we’ve seen in a long time I hold hope that we will come out of it on the other side.

More on the power of music.

In August, 1942, the city of Leningrad had been under siege for 11 months. Cut off by the German army, the population was literally starving to death.

Despite (or perhaps, because of) these terrible conditions, it was decided to have a concert. Many musicians of the pre-war orchestra had already perished due to starvation or disease. A copy of Shostakovich’s Symphony #7 had been smuggled into Leningrad, and on August 9, it was performed:

Loudspeakers were set up on the edge of town, broadcasting the concert to the Germans, showing that the Russians’ spirit was not broken.

By all accounts, the performance had a powerful effect on the city.

Fast forward to 2006. On October 20, I was fortunate to be able to attend a concert at Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor, where the Kirov Orchestra, conducted by Valery Gergiev performed Shostakovich’s Symphony #7. The Kirov Orchestra’s home is St. Petersburg, which in 1942, was known as Leningrad. It was a superb performance, partly due to the powerful and inspiring history of both the music and the orchestra.

Despite her being so admired by Mr. and Mrs. Obama, I doubt that “Formation”, performed by Beyonce under Leningrad’s conditions in 1942 would have nearly the effect of Shostakovich.

Class matters.
